The debut of the Copenhagen International Olive Oil Awards was held over the weekend in the Danish culinary capital. In a city known for its impeccable standards in cuisine, which includes 13 Michelin Star restaurants and is home to Northern Europe’s largest food festival, Copenhagen Cooking, it is no surprise it would become the setting for what may soon be one of the most prestigious olive oil competitions in the world.

The yearly competition brings together some of the world’s top olive oil producers to compete for The Best Olive Oil of Copenhagen as well as Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in the Delicate, Medium and Intense categories. As stated on the CIOOA website, the competition “was born to offer olive oil culture and its relate cuisine to Northern European costumers in order to enhance the comprehension of the benefits of an olive oil daily diet.”

The CIOOA is a non-profit organization and is composed of some of the world’s most respected olive oil judges from around the world lead by Italy’s renowned olive oil enthusiast and expert taster, Gino Celleti, author of Monocultivar Olive Oil: The Perfect Olive Oil.
